Now It’s a Pandemic

Except it’s not, because the media isn’t talking about it. We’re supposed to be angry and upset with the overturning of Roe v Wade. Oh, and maybe Ukraine, though not as much as last week.

Remember the old expression from the 1990s, “flipping the script?” It’s what comes to mind when I think of when the whole COVID project got started in March 2020, we went clear into the summer asking, “Does anyone actually know anyone who has this COVID/ Coronavirus thing?” Somebody knew someone, sure, and some people did die. But it wasn’t the pandemic it was played up to be. Everyone should have known someone who was ill. We already know they media lied and continue to lie about the numbers, but we didn’t see people dropping dead in the street as they did in the first videos used by the media to frighten people about it.

Now we have variants of COVID coming through and people are out sick here in high summer. A restaurant in my small high valley town closed for a week due to sickness among multiple employees and the bowling alley followed suit in time for the 4th of July weekend. An entire family was out of my church this Sunday in time for another recently recovered family to return. (The family out last Sunday were fully vaccinated, by the way. The mother has gotten COVID twice since, for a total of three infections.) The grand opening of a community market and drive-in theater was delayed for a week because of multiple cases.

We have an actual pandemic now—in summer heat!—yet the media is making nothing of it, so it’s like it’s not happening. The enormous vaccine bus was in the Safeway parking lot last weekend, so the powers that be are still hustling the mystery science juice, just not as vociferously in the media and threats from employers.

Me, I’m on an Ivermectin regimen. I should have some good natural immunity after my bout with COVID November but I don’t trust these variants. No telling what the latest re-jiggered bio-weapon can do. At least no one I know has died of this thing. Yet. My understanding is the latest iteration is a series of bad headaches, nothing respiratory. This flu should have been completely gone by this point, but here we are.

It’s all very weird and messed up and as a line George Carlin used as a theme in one of his later routines, “And no one notices, and nobody cares.” Which I’m fine with, considering all the lockdowns, restrictions, and mask mandates did was wreck the economy. This is just something else we’ll have to live with in the New Normal, in which Sudden Adult Death Syndrome among the vaccinated is now a thing.
